4. Installation - new hearth in an upper xxxfloor (a)

It is possible to install a new hearth into the upper floor of a building, but there are complications. Since the weight of the stove must be supported by the floor, Building Control may want you to certify that the floor is strong enough to take the weight of the appliance plus any fire-proofing materials that need to be used.
XXThis is a job for a structural engineer who will charge you a fee for his site visit, calculations and for providing his written requirements together with certificate.
XXAt simplest, you may be able to install a small, relatively light stove using the technique illustrated here. However the end result is not particularly elegant!
