6. Installation recessing a
stove
Where there are space restrictions
as in a narrow room it may be best to install an
inset stove (see showroom section.) Trying to recess a
freestanding stove creates difficulties as can be seen in the
illustrations at right.

A. heat rising from the stove is trapped by the horizontal surface
above and only a small amount bleeds out into the room. Because
the performance of the stove is degraded, you get little heat
for the fuel burned and there is always a tendency to over-run
the stove.

(B) the stove has been fitted with a "Tee" connector
at the rear. This displaces it out into the room so that warm
air can now rise into the room and set up a circulation.
XXBut
this is still only a half-way measure. If recessing a stove of
this type is essential it is far better to construct a proper
insulated convector-box according to the principles described
in the next frame.
