8. Installation using a register
plate
It is possible to install a stove
very simply to an existing open fireplace using a register plate.
XXThe
plate (A.) is cut out in mild steel up to 1mm thick, and fitted
with a short collar which may be made from the same material,
rolled and tack-welded to a port of sufficient size and in the
correct position to serve the appliance.
XXIn
use, the register plate is sealed securely to the open fire (B.)
so that the stove can now be backed up to it using the rear flue
connector.
XXTo
sweep the chimney, the stove and register plate are both removed
so that access can be gained in the normal way.
XXRegister
plates are really only suitable for small stoves being used on
a temporary basis. The fireplace at the back tends to get fouled
up pretty quickly. Also you can't use them with a boiler since
once pipes are connected up the whole thing becomes immoveable.
