When the stove and chimney are some
distance apart, the draught will inevitably be degraded.
XXYou
can minimise the problem by angling the interconnecting pipe
up at 45º or steeper and by insulating it. This way you
harness the upward thrust of the flue gases which are at their
maximum temperature and buoyancy as they leave the stove.
XXHorizontal
connections are to be avoided at all costs; 150mm (6") is
the maximum that should be considered at the back of any woodburning
or multifuel appliance.
XXIn
the illustration at right, the internal stove deflector plate
(shown in blue) can be removed to allow a cleaning brush to be
pushed up as far as the Tee. Make sure you have this facility
since the section of pipe between the stove and chimney is always
the first part to clog up with soot.
