18. Installation - lining a chimney.
If you plan to burn wood or peat
in a closed stove we strongly recomend you install a low-mass
flexible liner even if you have a brand new tiled chimney.
The argument for lining is covered fully in the chimney section;
here we deal solely with installation procedures.
XXThe
first essential is to specify the correct diameter of liner.
You should be able to find this information in your stove handbook.
Alternatively consult the manufacturer or your local stove shop.
Do not assume that the liner diameter corresponds to the diameter
of the flue-connector on your stove. It may not particularly
in the case of cookers.
XXNext
make sure your chimney will accomodate the liner! If the flue
is dead straight you may be able to inspect it with a torch,
but if there are bends or other obstructions you would be wise
to run a test length of liner through it. A section one metre
in length should be adequate. Nail a block of rounded wood into
each end and secure with a length of strong cord so that if the
test length jams you can pull it out the way it went in.
